ChanceMap Terms of Service Agreement
Last Updated Date: October 6, 2026
These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) are a binding agreement between you and Juan Carbonell, a sole proprietor based in Colombia, doing business as ChanceMap (“ChanceMap”, “we”, “us” or “our”). They govern your access to and use of the website at chancemap.app and its subdomains, and all features, content and services offered through it (together, the “Service”). By creating an account, starting a trial, making a purchase, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
PLEASE READ THESE TERMS CAREFULLY. THEY GOVERN YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE AND APPLY TO ALL USERS VISITING OR ACCESSING IT. BY ACCESSING OR USING THE SERVICE IN ANY WAY, CREATING AN ACCOUNT, STARTING A TRIAL, OR MAKING A PURCHASE, YOU REPRESENT THAT: (1) YOU HAVE READ, UNDERSTAND, AND AGREE TO BE BOUND BY THESE TERMS; (2) YOU ARE AT LEAST THIRTEEN (13) YEARS OF AGE AND, IF YOU ARE UNDER THE AGE OF EIGHTEEN (18), YOU ARE USING THE SERVICE WITH THE KNOWLEDGE OF A PARENT OR LEGAL GUARDIAN WHO AGREES TO THESE TERMS ON YOUR BEHALF; AND (3) YOU HAVE THE AUTHORITY TO ENTER INTO THESE TERMS. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO BE BOUND BY THESE TERMS, YOU MAY NOT ACCESS OR USE THE SERVICE.
IF YOU PURCHASE A SUBSCRIPTION, IT WILL AUTOMATICALLY RENEW FOR SUCCESSIVE PERIODS OF THE SAME DURATION AT THE THEN-CURRENT PRICE UNTIL YOU CANCEL IN ACCORDANCE WITH SECTION 6.5 (CANCELLING). ALL PAYMENTS ARE FINAL AND NON-REFUNDABLE EXCEPT AS PROVIDED IN OUR REFUND POLICY OR AS REQUIRED BY APPLICABLE LAW.
THE SERVICE PROVIDES ESTIMATES ONLY AND DOES NOT GUARANTEE ADMISSION TO ANY INSTITUTION OR ANY OTHER OUTCOME. SECTIONS 12 (DISCLAIMERS) AND 13 (LIMITATION OF LIABILITY) LIMIT OUR LIABILITY TO YOU. SECTION 15 (GOVERNING LAW AND DISPUTES) EXPLAINS HOW DISPUTES ARE RESOLVED.
1. Eligibility and accounts
1.1 Age. You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you are under 18 (or the age of majority where you live), you confirm that your parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agrees to these Terms, and that they are responsible for your use of the Service. Only an adult may purchase a paid plan.
1.2 Your account. Some features require an account. You agree to provide accurate information, keep it up to date, keep your sign-in credentials secure, and not share your account. You are responsible for activity under your account. Tell us promptly at support@chancemap.app if you suspect unauthorized use.
1.3 One account per person. You may not create multiple accounts to obtain additional free trials, free features, or referral rewards, or create an account on behalf of someone else (except a parent or guardian linking to their own student as described in Section 7).
2. What ChanceMap is (and isn’t)
2.1 Estimates, not guarantees. The Service estimates admission chances, costs, financial aid, and next steps using public data (such as the U.S. Department of Education’s College Scorecard), information you provide, and statistical and artificial-intelligence models. These are estimates only. Colleges make holistic decisions using information we do not have, data can be incomplete or out of date, and policies change every year. We do not guarantee any admission, scholarship, financial aid, test score, or other outcome.
2.2 Verify important information. Always confirm deadlines, costs, testing, and financial aid policies directly with each college. The Service is not a substitute for a school counselor, and nothing in it is legal, financial, immigration, or tax advice.
2.3 Independence. ChanceMap is independent and is not endorsed by, sponsored by, or affiliated with any college, testing agency, or government body. College names and logos are trademarks of their respective owners and are used only to identify each institution.
3. AI-powered features
3.1 How they work. Certain features, including the essay grader, activity and honors analysis, and activity writer, use third-party artificial-intelligence services (currently Anthropic). When you use them, you authorize us to send the text you submit to those providers solely to generate your results. Our providers are not permitted to use your content to train their models.
3.2 Advisory only. AI output, including scores, ratings, rubrics, and written feedback, may be inaccurate, incomplete, or inconsistent. It is advisory only. You are solely responsible for how you use it, and you should not rely on it as the sole basis for any important decision.
3.3 Academic integrity. Our tools give feedback; they are not intended to write essays or application materials for you to submit as your own. You are responsible for complying with the honesty, originality, and AI-use rules of every college, school, and program you apply to.
4. Your content
4.1 Ownership. You keep all rights to the essays, activities, and other information you submit (“Your Content”), and to the feedback generated for you.
4.2 License to operate the Service. You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, copy, process, and transmit Your Content only as needed to provide, secure, and maintain the Service for you, including sending it to our service providers. This license ends when you delete Your Content or your account, except for backups kept for a limited time and information you chose to share in anonymized form (see our Privacy Policy).
4.3 Your responsibilities. You confirm that you have the right to submit Your Content and that it does not violate any law or anyone else’s rights. Do not submit other people’s private information or sensitive documents (such as passport or bank details).
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to: (a) use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms; (b) submit another person’s work as your own or use the Service to cheat or violate academic-integrity rules; (c) abuse free features, trials, or referrals, including by creating multiple accounts; (d) scrape, crawl, copy, or extract data from the Service by automated means, or use it to build a competing product or to train AI models; (e) reverse engineer, interfere with, overload, or attempt to bypass the security or usage limits of the Service; (f) impersonate any person or misrepresent your identity or age; or (g) resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the Service. Paid plans are for personal use and include reasonable fair-use limits (for example, a daily cap on essay grades).
6. Plans, payments, and renewals
6.1 Plans. The Service includes free features and paid plans, which may include recurring subscriptions and one-time passes. The features, price, billing period, and any free trial are shown on our Pricing page and at checkout before you pay.
6.2 Resellers and payment. Purchases are processed by our authorized online resellers, which act as the Merchant of Record for your order: currently Gumroad, Inc. and Paddle.com. The reseller processes your payment, charges any applicable sales tax or VAT, issues your receipt, and may handle payment-related customer service. Your purchase is also subject to the reseller’s own buyer terms and privacy policy. We never receive your full card number.
6.3 Free trials. If a plan includes a free trial, you will not be charged during the trial. Unless you cancel before the trial ends, your subscription starts automatically and you authorize the charge shown at checkout. One free trial per person and per payment method. Cancelling during a trial ends access to paid features immediately.
6.4 Automatic renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period, at the then-current price, until you cancel. By subscribing, you authorize the reseller to charge your payment method at the start of each period.
6.5 Cancelling. You can cancel anytime from Account → Plan & billing or through the link in your receipt email. Cancellation stops future charges; you keep access until the end of the period you already paid for. One-time passes do not renew and last until the date shown at purchase (for the Cycle Pass, July 31 of the current admissions cycle).
6.6 Refunds. Payments are non-refundable except as described in our Refund Policy or as required by applicable law. When you purchase, you ask that access begin immediately and acknowledge that, where the law allows, you lose any right to withdraw once access has started.
6.7 Price changes. We may change prices for future billing periods. We will notify subscribers by email or in the Service before a price change applies to them, and you may cancel before it takes effect.
6.8 Failed payments. If a payment fails, we or the reseller may retry it, and we may suspend paid features until payment succeeds.
7. Parents and guardians
A student may invite a parent or guardian to link their account. A linked parent can view a read-only summary of the student’s plan and progress and may pay for the student’s plan, in which case the parent manages its billing. Either side may remove the link at any time from the Family page.
8. Invites (referrals)
A friend who joins through your invite link may receive a longer free trial. When they make their first payment, you may receive one free week of access. Rewards are available only for genuinely new users, are limited per admissions season, and do not apply to self-referrals (including your own other accounts, devices, networks, or payment details). We may withhold or reverse rewards obtained in breach of these rules, and we may change or end the program at any time.
9. Intellectual property
The Service, including its software, design, text, graphics, data compilations, models, the ChanceMap name and logo, and the Jett mascot, is owned by us or our licensors and protected by intellectual-property laws. Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service for your own non-commercial purposes. If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them without obligation to you.
10. Third-party services
The Service relies on and links to third-party services (for example, sign-in with Google, our payment resellers, hosting and AI providers, and college websites). We are not responsible for third-party services, and your use of them is subject to their terms.
11. Suspension and termination
11.1 By you. You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time from Account → Your data. Deleting your account cancels any active subscription renewal.
11.2 By us. We may suspend or terminate your access if you materially breach these Terms, misuse the Service, or put other users or the Service at risk, or if we are required to by law. If we terminate your account without cause, we will refund the unused portion of any prepaid plan.
11.3 Effect. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including 2, 3.2, 4.1, 9, 12, 13, 14, and 15) will survive.
12. Disclaimers
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE”, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE, OR THAT ANY ESTIMATE, SCORE, OR FEEDBACK WILL BE ACCURATE OR WILL LEAD TO ANY PARTICULAR RESULT.
13. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW: (a) WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF OPPORTUNITY, ADMISSION, SCHOLARSHIP, FINANCIAL AID, DATA, OR PROFITS, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE SERVICE; AND (b) OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE OR FIFTY U.S. DOLLARS (US$50). THESE LIMITS DO NOT APPLY TO LIABILITY THAT CANNOT BE LIMITED BY LAW, INCLUDING FOR FRAUD OR WILFUL MISCONDUCT.
14. Indemnity
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims, losses, and reasonable costs (including legal fees) arising from your breach of these Terms, Your Content, or your misuse of the Service.
15. Governing law and disputes
15.1 Governing law. These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Colombia, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
15.2 Talk to us first. If you have a dispute, email support@chancemap.app with a description and the outcome you want. We will try in good faith to resolve it within 30 days before either of us starts formal proceedings.
15.3 Courts. Unresolved disputes will be decided by the competent courts of the Republic of Colombia, except that if you are a consumer, you may also bring a claim in the courts where you live when the law gives you that right.
15.4 Your consumer rights. Nothing in these Terms limits any rights you have under mandatory consumer-protection or data-protection laws of the country where you live (including, where applicable, Colombian Law 1480 of 2011, and the laws of the European Union and the United Kingdom).
16. General
16.1 Changes. We may update these Terms. If a change is material, we will notify account holders by email or in the Service at least 14 days before it takes effect, except where a change is required by law or addresses security. Continuing to use the Service after the effective date means you accept the updated Terms.
16.2 Notices. We may send notices to the email associated with your account or display them in the Service. You can send notices to support@chancemap.app.
16.3 Entire agreement. These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, Refund Policy, and any terms shown at checkout, are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service.
16.4 Severability and waiver. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it.
16.5 Assignment. You may not transfer these Terms without our consent. We may transfer them in connection with a reorganization, such as forming a company to operate ChanceMap, or a sale of the business, and we will tell you if that happens.
16.6 Force majeure. We are not responsible for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control.
16.7 Language. These Terms are written in English. If we provide a translation, the English version controls to the extent permitted by law.
16.8 Contact. ChanceMap is operated by Juan Carbonell, Colombia. Questions about these Terms: support@chancemap.app.
