How the conversion works
On the 0–100 (pass 60) scale, 60/100 is a pass and 93/100 or higher is treated as straight-A work. Grades between those points map evenly onto 1.5 to 4.0 on the US scale; grades below passing map onto 0 to 1.5. It's deliberately simple and transparent. Colleges recalculate GPAs in their own way.
Questions
Do US colleges convert Egypt grades themselves?
Yes. Admissions offices read your transcript in the context of Egypt's grading system and your school. A converted GPA is a helpful estimate for comparing yourself with published admissions data, not an official number. Report grades exactly as your school issues them.
Is this conversion official?
No. There is no single official conversion. ChanceMap maps the passing grade and the grade treated as straight-A work in each system onto the US 4.0 scale. Some colleges and credential services (like WES) use their own methods.
What's a good grade in Egypt for top US colleges?
Highly selective US colleges typically admit students near the top of their class. On the 0–100 (pass 60) scale, that usually means grades at or above 93/100.
